My Family
Compared to my best friend’s parents, mine is a very complicated one to handle for a 20 - year - old girl like me. Maybe because of the generation gap. Dad is 73 and mom is 65, very traditional thinkers. My best friend’s parents are very open minded. Very modern, open to all kinds of conversation like boyfriends, parties, sex and other topics that are new to our generation. Even the way her parents communicate with each other. Showing affections and even sweetness to each other. My parents don’t do that to each other. Dad is very strict, mom is very conservative. I guess that’s how they are in the old ways of living together.
When it comes to asking permission to go to parties, my best friend can ask her parents permission so easily. Mine it’s so friggin’ hard. I have to answer the question when, where, how, and why not to metion who. Trust is a very big issue for them. Too much for being ‘over protective’. All throughout my life I had been nothing but an angel. No barkadas during highschool, no parties, all school activities from gradeschool to highschool even until now. I almost didn’t have a social life and almost didn’t have the knowledge of other things that is not taught in school.
Traditional ways have really great practices for disciplining a child but nowadays, there should be changes in a way that parents should always communicate with their child openly, unlike before who’s parents are not that open or even close to their kids. There are new issues that can revolve around a child’s mind and it’s up to the parents to really get into their child’s world to further understand and have a good relation to their kinds.
***These are all based on my experiences and understanding from the last two short stories that we have read.
